Bouffant better then Beauracrat.

After nearly 48 hours of problems with my service provider
I am finally getting the WU together. If you find my patter
to be less then snappy, blame Eden (, but if you find it
greater the enjoyable I'll take the credit.)

I can't say that a lot went on this weekend, but I hit several
application gems while spelunking the World Wide Cavern. I'll
tell you about them and I'll let you know about that movie
"Prophecy". As usual, there are some really good URL's that
you absolutely _must_ visit. I won't be telling you the story
of the ducks (maybe I should dedicate a series of pages with
links to the Bellach sister's pages about my unending passion
for fowl tales.)

[ The next two pieces are edited from notes that WU ]
[ subscribers sent me about their weekends. This was ]
[ the original purpose of the Weekend Update -- to ]
[ tell about other places and things to do/see. So, ]
[ view these with the idea that if you're ever in ]
[ Vermont or Santa Fe you'll have a better idea what ]
[ to expect. ]

Fri, [ I went ] for a visit to the Ben & Jerry's Web Corporate HQ
to visit their Web Masters (http://www.benjerry.com) Cool dudes.
They're at the corner of 100 & 2 in Waterbury (behind "The Feed Bag")
The dude I was speaking with gave me a tour and said he would have
introduced me to Ben & Jerry but they were out of town (damn!) Did you
know that employees get 3 pints of ice cream per day!?!?!?!?!

INTERESTING SANTA FE NEWS:

[ 9/8/95 ] is the beginning of Fiesta, a Southwestern-style Mardi Gras
that commemorates the re-conquering of Santa Fe from the Indians by
the Spanish. Viva repression!!! Coinciding with Fiesta is the burning
of Zozobra.

Zozobra is a 30 plus foot tall doll that supposedly represents all bad
spirits. He looks more like a giant clown from Cirque De Soleil than he
does a harbinger of evil. The locals march him around town while in a
drunken stupor, and then burn him in a pagan frenzy of inebriation and
violence. Viva paganism!!! If I feel well enough to go, I'll tell you all
about it later. If not (I'm leaning towards not), I'll tell you all about
watching it on PBS. I live in the land of the perpetual, group Peyote trip.
No doubt about it.

[ I hate the idea of paper. I'm not a tree hugger or ]
[ dirt nibbler, it's just that paper gets in the way. ]
[ Anything I can find that reduces paper in my life is ]
[ a boon. Here's (basically) tv guide on-line. Huzzah! ]

[ From the KMc, <Kelly.McCollum@chronicle.com> comes an app ]
[ that keeps me in touch with my wired buddies. Get a copy ]
[ from the URL below and look for me <etrigan@eden.com>, ]
[ Steve <stavros@eden.com>, or KMc (as above). It lets you ]
[ keep a continuous chat session going, send and recieve ]
[ files, cruise Netscape together, and more... ]

  Heard of this?

I'm keeping mine active, so try and reach me if you get it and
  get it working.

"Prophecy"

The first 45 minutes of this movie was worth what I paid
(appx. 1/2 of 6.25=3.10) but then Virginia Madsen and the
so-far-as-I-care nameless little girl had to introduce the
Georgia-Pacific acting technique -- perform like a dying
tree. This leads me to a new rating scale exclusive to
the WU (thanks to stavros for helping with this):

Opening Day - kill to see this movie.
Full Price - must see in theatre
Matinee - if you have time on a Sunday, catch it.
Dollar Cinema - wait till it's cheap
Couple rental - not worth the theatre, but ok for dutch renting.
Group rental - only see this movie when you can share the expense.
Never - self-explanatory

"Prophecy" is a Matinee. Eric Stoltz and Christopher Walken
(and that guy who plays Lucifer) do a great job. The story
is pretty cool, too. The cinematography and Virgina suck.

You'll remember (yes, you will) I mentioned a band from my
home town area called Habitual Sex Offenders (HSO). If you're
curious as to what they sound like and wanna check 'em out
then take a look at http://www.eden.com/~etrigan/hso/ (as
usual, this area is under construction so be careful).

The band is not happy with Louisiana now that the legal
drinking age has jumped to 21 -- it was !great! being a
teenager in Louisiana -- so they'll only be playing a few
more shows before they go on hiatus in November.
(Look for an Austin show mid-October, other than that
I'll let you know.)

Which conveniently leads me to this note from one of the help
staff here at eden.com:

From jprice@eden.com "... now .ra file types have been added to
[ eden's ] server..."

Many thanks to jprice for doing this. I _highly_ reccomend
you go to www.realaudio.com and get a copy of their player
so that you can download long but _very_ small audio files
from my site, including an HSO clip.

You're gonna say "WOW!" -- trust me. FTP to netcom.com and
look in the /pub/ig/igs/win (or ../mac for mac users) sub-
directory for a file called weather.zip. This file lets you
receive wather reports for many major cities around the USA
on a regualar basis. It's great to keep up with local AND
friends' cities' weather.
