1997 – The Real Internet
Dear YouTube Generation- All the way back in 1997, I hosted a page of videos on my web site created using cutting edge technology. They were about 1% the size of the 3-4 minute vlogs we love today, and I was only able to afford hosting them because I was friends with the guy who […]
New “9″ Clip
9, the feature film (based on the short film “9”,) has a new clip out. This is a movie that has me rocking in anticipation like a 10 year old after a Super Big Gulp Slushee. var s1 = new SWFObject(’/backporchbeer/simpleviewer/player.swf’,‘mpl’,‘320’,‘268’,‘9’); s1.addParam(‘allowfullscreen’,‘true’); s1.addParam(‘allowscriptaccess’,‘always’); s1.addParam(‘wmode’,‘opaque’); s1.addParam(‘flashvars’,’&duration=126&image=http://www.rollerfeet.com/backporchbeer/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/nineclip200904.jpg&controlbar=over&file=http://www.rollerfeet.com/backporchbeer/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/nineclip200904l.flv&plugins=hd-1&hd.file=http://www.rollerfeet.com/backporchbeer/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/nineclip200904s.flv&stretching=fill’); s1.write(‘preview’);
Recycle Your Old Computer(s) For Earth Day + a Contest!
I dropped off three old systems at my company’s recycling spot this morning. To be honest, I did it to appease my wife and make her think I was getting rid of junk. Hopefully she doesn’t realize this donation represents about 5% of all the computer gear I’ve squirreled away in our house. You should […]
Why no Point and Click 80′s for the iPhone?
If you were a nerd in the late-80s/early-90s there are a series of games that cemented your love of computers. I spent more time questing for the king, space, or the police than I have playing any XBox 360 game (although I think Rock Band may be competing to take that badge.) After those games […]
Instructables: The Business Card Catapult
I’ll have to stop by Office Depot to update my office supplies so I can make this. Cardapult the Business Card Catapult – More DIY How To Projects
Two Things
First, I am making this post from my iPhone. Using the WordPress app. Second, I am uploading this panoramic pic I took with the Pano iPhone app. Oh, and I added a fancy new plugin that makes us more legible on an iPhone browser.
BNAT X
BNAT X is on the books, Becky is still napping, while I am powering through to sleep tonight. I’m a little slap-happy from being up too long, but I’m going to try and finish this coverage tonight. First though I need to get my kiss-ass out of the way. I can’t thank Harry enough for […]
what he said
Please, re-blog this. thegurglingcod: I never entirely bought into the idea of blog years, but I’m not sure what else explains the nostalgia I feel for the pre-Tumblr era. At the risk of sounding as if I am pining for some discursive never-never land, like I was some Frankfurt School refugee who wound up beached […]
Coraline Trailer
Ok, I’ve got promising movies for March, May and July, and now February.
Race To Witch Mountain Trailer
…ok, March isn’t as far away but it is still hard to wait that long. I loved these movies as a child (and my sister had Ike’s poster on her wall forever.) flowplayer(“a.trek”, “/backporchbeer/flowplayer-3.0.0-rc3.swf”, { plugins: { controls: { all:false, play:true, scrubber:true, fullscreen:true, allowFullScreen: true, scaling: ‘fit’ } } });
Trek and Harry Potter Trailers
Is it just me, or are May and July too far away? flowplayer(“a.trek”, “/backporchbeer/flowplayer-3.0.0-rc3.swf”, { plugins: { controls: { all:false, play:true, scrubber:true, fullscreen:true, allowFullScreen: true } } }); flowplayer(“a.hphbp”, “/backporchbeer/flowplayer-3.0.0-rc3.swf”, { plugins: { controls: { all:false, play:true, scrubber:true , fullsreen:true, allowFullScreen: true } } });
“Awesome!” A Signing.
A friend and I met and got our copies of The Great Outdoor Fight signed by Mr. Onstad in Boston this past Saturday. Quite a turnout. We talked very briefly about children after he inscribed the book to Eliot. Afterwards, I thought to myself “Am I a bad father? Why did I have him inscribe […]
Kevin Mitnick
Kevin is the only hacker I can name and I’ve always been fascinated by his story. Glad to read today that he’s now living a second life as an information security consultant.
Opensource the HD-DVD
Now that HD-DVD has lost the battle, I’ve thought of a way to keep the format alive. The rights/patent owners should release the technology through an open source outlet, giving that community the ability to create their own disc format free of restriction. It’s a dream, but it doesn’t seem too unachievable.
Phone history
I came across some old Nokia phone pics today and thought it would be fun to see the mobile phones I’ve owned all in a row. (scale is purely estimated.)
