(Some of you may want to put your tin-foil hats back on for this.)

For me, and probably many people, using Google is almost an unconcious act. So I’ve enjoyed looking back at my search history and jarring my memory about certain subjects I was pursuing. Looking just at the first day of each month from 2005, I can see my job search, house search, mortgage research, and research for my new job.

And now my multi-hued Internet master has added a trend analysis tool to search history. Fascinating.

Yo Flav, read on for some specifics.

— As I’d expect, most of my searching happens during work hours, but it appears to be highest between 4 and 5. I would have thought I did less searching toward the end of the day. Maybe as people start leaving the office, I have less work to do, or perhaps later in the day I’ve exhausted my RSS feeds and am more likely to go looking for something to look at.

— October was far busier than any other month so far. This was my first full month of work and probably shows me getting up to speed on Mac tech support issues, which is a big component of my job and was pretty new to me.

— I’ve only been in it since May, so it’s not a good sample, but it appears that I search less during the summer months. Perhaps because I’m outside more and on the computer less?

— More searching on Wednesdays, less on Fridays. Huh.

*As I noted, I’ve only been recording my searches since May, so any of these could be an aberration, but it will be interesting to watch as my sample size gets bigger and bigger.
