jankParanoiaRandom UFO crap

These are a few weeks old, but still kind of interesting in the “Who killed JFK?” sort of way. Actually, the second one is really interesting, if you ask me - little green men out to crash our computers. Both are via slashdot.

First, a former Canadian MOD said, no lie, “The United States military are preparing weapons which could be used against the aliens, and they could get us into an intergalactic war without us ever having any warning. …The Bush administration has finally agreed to let the military build a forward base on the moon, which will put them in a better position to keep track of the goings and comings of the visitors from space, and to shoot at them, if they so decide.” Well, great. Is W’s been a busy man, I guess. Is there anything he can’t screw up? Highlight of the article, for me, was former Democrat presidential Denis Kucinich’s cameo.

Second bit is a government scientist who worries that if we do receive a signal via SETI, that it may be a virus. If it’s true, it’d mean that Microsoft’s figured out a way to go FTL. What’s especially interesting here is that the guy didn’t make the connection with the metavirus in “Snow Crash”.
