Why no Point and Click 80′s for the iPhone?
If you were a nerd in the late-80s/early-90s there are a series of games that cemented your love of computers. I spent more time questing for the king, space, or the police than I have playing any XBox 360 game (although I think Rock Band may be competing to take that badge.) After those games I was embroiled in the world of Maniac Mansion, defeating tentacles and directing Sam and Max to solve mysteries. All of these games were developed at a time when memory was minuscule and the whole game had to fit on a 5 and 1/4 inch floppy (that I usually had to “notch” so I could “back it up”.)
The iPhone/iPod, by comparison to those systems of yore, is a supercomputer. How much could the copyright holders of these games rake in by developing versions to sell on iTunes? The target demographic of apple’s portable is exactly the same people that would be nostalgic for these games. Now in our 30s and 40s, we would pay for that little piece of memory to store in our pocket.
Someone more business-minded than I should acquire the rights in exchange for a cut of the revenue, and deliver on this idea. (I’d be glad to do the code-monkey dance to create these. It wouldn’t be hard since there’s not-quite-legal source code all over the web to create your own versions of these games.)
p.s. I didn’t mention Leisure Suit Larry because I was certainly not allowed to play such filth…nope, I never helped Larry hook up in a hot tub and catch “the clap”.
p.p.s. Remember “Out of This World” or “Loom”? Those would be great to have, too.
p.p.p.s. Videos after the jump to remind you the fun you’re missing out on.

Damn. What happened to Lucas Arts & Sierra?!
Lucas is spitting out crap-trash Star Wars games twice a week, and Sierra would be dead now if it weren’t for Half-life.
Who’s making good adventure games now? Almost no one. Note the exceptions: Chronicles of Riddick, Psychonauts, Silent Hill, ???
I especially miss the insider nerd humor of games like Space Quest, Monkey Island and DOT. tear
