As an independent, I am only involved with party politics in brief passionate affairs of surface issues. Listening to NPR this morning, I was exposed to some of the inner workings of the DNC and I can’t help but wonder when delegates say things like “if Hilary isn’t on the roll call, then people will think it is because she’s a woman,” are they really saying “if I don’t vote for Obama, then it may be because he’s black.”?

Cupcakes have hit Austin and hit it real hard. We may even need culinary relief from the number of cupcake stands all over town. When I returned from Brazil, Carolee went on and on about her new favorite cupcake place and me-being-me (grumpy, unfriendly) decided she was just being her typical (joyful, enthusiastic) self and I ignored her. Friday night, though, we stopped at Polka Dots – a cupcake factory and the (super, friendly) owners sold us some of the last cupcakes of the day.

Oh. My. Gawd. I owe Carolee a big apology. These babies are light and fluffy, covered with a cloud-like sweet frosting, filled with the most wonderful flavors. If you live in Austin, go to the corner of 29th and Rio Grande, to the little old house right across from Oat Willies and get one of these babies as soon as possible.
