You don’t have to travel far to find some great views around Porto Alegre. In fact, if you like cityscapes you can see an excellent one right outside the window in the elevator lobby.

These are a few videos of vistas I’ve seen here.

Not much of a vista in the break area outside the office here, but I love a good rain. I love the kind of rain you don’t get in Central Texas. In Porto Alegre I’m seeing rain like we get in Louisiana. Steady, soothing, constant…I just love rain, you know.

After lunch at Bifão we drove to the top of the hill in Guaiba overlooking the river.

This is the elevator to the overlook for Cascata do Caracol (Snail Falls)…

and this is Cascata do Caracol (Snail Falls) from the overlook.

Did I mention the rain? It rained most of Saturday morning, so I stayed in my room and wrote a long post about food with pictures that you may have seen. This was my view for most of the day.

It cleared up eventually — only to rain all day today — but at night you can see the lights of the cityscape.

So they put a freakin turisty elevator at Cascata Caracol? When I went there (a couple of yrs ago) we had to go down about 900 steps to get to the bottom. Just imagine going back up…

One of the guys on my team here in Porto Alegre went to the bottom. He says he almost didn’t make it back to the top. :) I’ll post more pictures of Cascata Caracol and the surrounding park in a few days.
