I hope at least two of our regular readers were listening this morning when NPR discussed “Chi Running”: Especialy the regular reader I live with who — along with me — achieved her gold belt in Tai Chi weekend before last.

So, I’m clearly addicted to running gadgets, etc.

But Chi Running is one of those things that I think is somewhat overkil. I’ve always approached running as something that we’re clearly supposed to be able to do, biomechanically, if you’re taking a somewhat scientific basis – can’t evolve to the ‘burbs without having had ancestors who could outrun large predators and marauding armies for about half a million years.

So my take on the whole deal has been to pay attention to what I was doing, and tweak my stride if something was hurting, or if I could hear my shoes slapping on the pavement. Running should be quiet.

Which, from what I’ve heard/read about Chi Running, is pretty much what they strive for.

While I’d love to go off on a rant over snake oil, I just can’t, ’cause if it works for someone, and they’ve got cash to spare, more power to whomever divests them of that cash and leaves them happy.
