Or, Darn, why didn’t I think of that?
So, I throw the kids in bed tonight and head out to the backyard for a little bit of peace, quiet, and contemplation. Which means, naturally, that I’m going to throw some fallen branches, etc, into the fire pit and watch them burn. ‘Cause I dig that.
And the fire’s darn near perfect – five decent sized limbs from the pine out front, enough tinder to make a good bed of coals, and some scrap lumber to give staying power. Sizzles, crackles and pops from the pine, and collapses nicely on itself, not needing to be tended so much as admired.
And I wonder – why not do fire as performance art? Engineer structures, ideally using whatever material was available, that will burn and collapse in on themselves in an interesting way. Think Aggie Bonfire but without the jackboots.
Anyway, just a peek into my mind.
Oh, and proof that Carson Daily/Earl Hickey know a thing or two about the nature of the universe – the neighbors three houses down have a huge thing for fireworks. Every night, all freakin’ summer. At least they usually knock it off about 10 PM.
My name is Bill. I’m just trying to be a better person.
