Twice in the past month I was so drawn to music I heard at the Drafthouse I had to give Apple more of my money via iTunes.

The first time was for a trailer they put together for a Shaw Brothers marathon. I had to email Henri (one of the longer living programmers at the Drafthouse) and he identified the song as Ladytron’s “Everything You Touch” Ladytron - Witching Hour - Destroy Everything You Touch. Their music is live electronic (meaning no samples) and has punk flavoring. The style is called electroclash for a reason.

I heard the second song at the BPM Festival as Meloncat’s video for the band The Lovemakers’s “Shake That Ass” The Lovemakers - Times of Romance - Shake That Ass. These guys are a reincarnation of ABBA with a full grasp of the levity (or lack thereof) in carrying that disco-pop-funk-rock banner into the present.

Give both of those songs a sample listen at iTunes and see what you think.
