My trial on Ecto ran out today. I was on the verge of buying it (actually, shelling out for both the OS X and Windows licenses), when I figured I’d give Mars Edit a try.

‘Cause I’m cheap like that.

My initial feel is that I’m going to go back to Ecto – I like the Amazon integration; like the iTunes stuff, like the Technorati tags. And especially like the price – 25 bucks for both OS X and Windows versus $30 for Mars Edit. Ecto’s editor window seems a little bit more convenient. Even though I typically look at the tags as I type, I like having the button to switch back and forth between display and markup, without having to rely on a separate preview window.

JohnO might prefer Mars Edit – it supports textile and other funky markup types. YMMV.

Now, to see if I can find a King Cake anywhere in Newport tomorrow…
