An interesting development in the ongoing saga of trying to site a safe, clean, sustainable power source. We’ve covered this here and here

In any case, it looks like the Cape Wind Farm is getting killed by a rider placed on a bill by Rep. Don Young (R-Alaska), chairman of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.

So, the Kennedys and others get to keep their views, and ratepayers on Cape Cod continue to be dependent on fossil fuel, complete with fallout from coal-powered plants in the midwest. Way to look out for your constituients, Gov. Mitt Romney® and Sen. Edward M. Kennedy (D-Mass.).

Lawmaker’s proposal: Bar Republicans from adopting

State Sen. Robert Hagan sent out e-mails to fellow lawmakers late Wednesday night, stating that he intends to “introduce legislation in the near future that would ban households with one or more Republican voters from adopting children or acting as foster parents.” The e-mail ended with a request for co-sponsorship.

Hagan said his “tongue was planted firmly in cheek” when he drafted the proposed legislation. However, Hagan said that the point he is trying to make is nonetheless very serious.

Becky and I are only buying Dove products after catching Dove’s new ad last night. Following on the heels their beautiful ad blitz featuring models of all shapes and sizes, they are attacking the issue of self-esteem in girls by encouraging people to donate to Girl Scouts of the USA through their Campaign For Real Beauty. Sure, it’s just marketing but it’s marketing that will hopefully change the world.

My trial on Ecto ran out today. I was on the verge of buying it (actually, shelling out for both the OS X and Windows licenses), when I figured I’d give Mars Edit a try.

‘Cause I’m cheap like that.

My initial feel is that I’m going to go back to Ecto – I like the Amazon integration; like the iTunes stuff, like the Technorati tags. And especially like the price – 25 bucks for both OS X and Windows versus $30 for Mars Edit. Ecto’s editor window seems a little bit more convenient. Even though I typically look at the tags as I type, I like having the button to switch back and forth between display and markup, without having to rely on a separate preview window.

JohnO might prefer Mars Edit – it supports textile and other funky markup types. YMMV.

Now, to see if I can find a King Cake anywhere in Newport tomorrow…

I know most of you could care less about accounting for you dairy intake (despite the anthropologically-sound theories that indicate humans are not meant to process milk from other mammals, especially after childhood) but there’s a new product from Soy Delicious — a company previously called Soy My God, What Did I Just Put In My Mouth? around our house — and Rice/Soy Dreams that I highly reccommend. The new Purely Decadent line of pint sized ice creams are more along the lines of traditional ice creams, ala Chocolate Brownie Almond and Praline Pecan, while Tea Dreams are more challenging (but still yummy) flavors that are paired with Celestial Seasonings© stylings to produce Chocolate Caramel Chai and Vanilla Hazelnut. Look for them in your hipper grocery stores.

A group of self-proclaimed 007 fans are planning to boycott the new Bond movie. I can only imagine that they haven’t bothered to see Layer Cake since Daniel Craig shames any movie or tv show, Bond or otherwise, that Pierce Brosnan has ever done.

As many of you know, McDonald’s is much beloved by one of the people in my household. Will this change his mind?

I’m doing a bit of shopping and noticed the Navigate By Interest menu at Think Geek. The very first option is Monkeys. …‘cause monkeys are funny.

Calvin’s dad is some weird hybrid of all the most foreign-to-me facets of Jank and Becky that looks like K-Pho.

Right now, on my kitchen counter, there sits a tub of dried prunes. I did not contribute to bringing those things into my house.

p.s. How does “weird” (and foreign) fit into the whole i before e rhyme? Shouldn’t we just change the spelling? Or is it just weird? and if so why isn’t it wreid?

The only thing better than someone telling stories about something cute their baby did is telling stories about something cute their pet did.

Philip’s been throwing up his food occasionally as of late.

I have a vested interest in Dell stock. I still don’t understand how the market makes any sense.

Dell’s fourth-quarter earnings rose 52% from a year ago to $1.01 billion, or 43 cents a share, on a 13% rise in revenue to $15.18 billion. Analysts were expecting earnings of 41 cents a share on sales of $14.82 billion. For the first quarter, Dell pegged revenue at $14.2 billion to $14.6 billion. Analysts wanted $14.73 billion. Dell was losing $1.39, or 4.4%, to $30.57.

That seems so easy to break down in my mind. Great real world thing: earnings rose 52%…to $1.01 billion…on a 13% rise in revenue to $15.18 billion. Pulled out of some analyst’s ass not great but still good thing: Analysts were expecting earnings of 41 cents a share on sales of $14.82 billion. And this causes the stock to drop over 4%? *Seriously?!?*

The analysts need to quit smoking crack and come back to the real world. There is no more tech boom and we’re the only company expected to perform like there is. Unfortunately, all we can muster is outperforming all of our competitors over and over again.

Spent some time on Wikipedia last night. After I looked at what I wanted to, I started hitting the “Random Article“ button. Got “Treadmill“, “Special Representative for Trade and Investment,” “Meriville-Franceville-Plage,” and “Zababa.”

What a quick and easy way to generate band names, I thought to myself.

If I knew any web-fu, I’d whip up a script to do it automagically.

Attention New Yorkers: Hamell on Trial will be performing his one man show in support of Songs For Parents Who Enjoy Drugs at The Knitting Factory February 21-23 and March 2-4 and they can’t close down his show because this time it’s “theatre”. (Seriously, how can a NYC or LA club owner close a spoken-word rock singer down for being foul mouthed, but he can get away with it in Racine, no problem?)

Becky and I got to see a preview of his act Tuesday night and he certianly hasn’t lost it. To prove it, I stole a couple videos from his website for anyone too afraid to see it in person. Values is for all you parents (but he does slip in a little cursing) who are curious about Hamell’s attempts as a fairly recent father to bring order into a modern family. Coulter’s Sn**** (NSFW) is Hamell revealing a little known truth about the right-wing media, specfically that Ann Coulter’s gender-specific equipment that seperates her from most of the rest of her fellow pundits is quite odoriferous. I don’t know if this is personally true, but if Ann has the guts to deny this accusation then she needs to be able to present unrefutable truth — we can’t just take her word for it. Last, here are a couple videos from me taken last night showing Hamell’s antics.

Good headline: Cheney Steps Up War on Lawyers. Anyone got any other funnies?

I’m glad the other guy’s all right, etc, but MAN, this is a needed comedic shot in the country’s arm. Too bad it wasn’t public before this week’s Wait Wait went to press. (WWDTM has a podcast of the entire show now. Yippie! No more worrying I’m missing it while the boys and I are at the library).
