Le Tour de France
So – Dave Zabriskie (Team CSC) breaks the all-time record for Tour de France time trials in the first stage, and beats Armstrong by a couple of seconds. The two of them start the race with a minute’s lead on the rest of the field.
Today, Zabriskie crashes near the Team Time Trial finish, Armstrong takes yellow, and he’s got a minute and a half minimum on anyone who can come close to contending.
What I want to know is – what are the odds on Americans wearing the leader’s jersey for the entire race?
Which is not to say that this year’s race lacks punch. Tom Boonen’s blowing the doors off the rest of the sprinters, and Voekler (French dude who spent a week or so in yellow last year) is fighting for the King of the Mountains jersey. Good stuff.
