OK, which one of you is supposed to be in charge of keeping us informed about the VRWC’s devious efforts to bastardize the language — sorry, “frame the debate”?
Apparently this hit the Web in the past month or so. It’s allegedly a 2006 political playbook written by Republican “communications consultant” Frank Luntz, one of the guys behind the highly successful “say the exact opposite of what you mean” Republican strategy.
Highlights include a list of words never to use — Those aren’t trial lawyers, they’re “personal injury lawyers”, it’s not drilling for oil, it’s “exploring for energy” — and a complete speech ready to go for convincing your local constituents that ANWR drilling is the right choice.
Those of you on the MoveOn distribution list probably got the same e-mails I did about Bush’s attempt to get approval for the same 20 freakishly awful (or right in line with your way of thinking, as the case may be) judge nominations as in the last go-around. What do we think about this? Should I really be concerned that any one of them has enough support now to gain approval? First vote is tomorrow, apparently.
