So far I am speechless about this.

As Artist-in-Residence at Cornell’s arts dorm, I am expected to come up with stimulating art-related programs for the students here to participate in. “Letters to Walken” allowed them the chance to write their yearly Christmas letter to Christopher Walken.

Dan Gilmore, former big-name tech columnist for the Merc, is cooking up something that’s like a blog and also like a media organization and somehow will be better than existing media organizations by relying on “citizen journalists”.

He seems to be more in the big ideas phase of it, but it sounds like he’s exploring some of the ideas we’ve been bandying about concerning picking up the government watchdogging that corporate media has given up on.

This amateur South Korean news site (of course!) has the scoop, along with photos of Mr. Gilmore wearing the same shirt I wear every year between October and March.

Also, I’d be remiss as a blogger if I neglected to make a point of mentioning that I had dinner with Mr. Gilmore at a party once. Seems like a nice guy.

So you may want to hold on to some of that Christmas cash (or whichever holiday you observe near the solstice). Sounds like Jobs’ Macworld Keynote in January may have something interesting.

Personally, I’m pushing for a keypad/transceiver that plugs into existing iPods, but if it’s a straight-up hard-drive based phone, I may be apologizing to Missy and putting the 40GB on Ebay.

But it’s got me wondering why the merged PDA/Phone things never really took off.

Which makes this all the more interesting.
