No, really.

I finally got around to flipping open the new issue of Wired and what do I find but a brandy spankin’ new CD with 2^4 ( 10000base2 ) (16base10) songs on it from folks ranging from the Beasties to Paul Westerberg. I’m psyched, since it had another song from My Morning Jacket who I’d been turned on to a while ago by another magazine, the sadly defunct Oxford American (who claim to be publishing again).

In any case, you can download the whole shootin’ match here. Looks like they’re going to open a place in which to send mashups of the songs on the album.

No, really – there are speakers
that actually do go to 11.

In fact, the Z-5500 goes to 11. No kidding. When you reach the top of the volume dial, keep turning. The system goes into a boost mode, numbered 1 to 11.

What amazes me is that it took 20 years for someone to do this.

Is on my list of all-time favorite writers, ever. The newest Dilbert Newsletter is out, and features the following voting advice:

Dear Dogbert,

How can I decide for whom to vote?

Dan

Dear Bedpan,

Highly intelligent and well-informed people disagree on every political issue. Therefore, intelligence and knowledge are useless for making decisions, because if any of that stuff helped, then all the smart people would have the same opinions.

So use your “gut instinct” to make voting choices. That is exactly like being clueless, but with the added advantage that you’ll feel as if your random vote preserved democracy.

Sincerely,

Dogbert
