They were giving these out at the water stations during the marathon.
(And I’m testing a way to post photos using Flickr.com.)
Wired is running with a story about how Democratic US House members have sent a letter to the GAO accusing the GOP of using various e-voting techniques to rig the election.
Which is probably the main reason why I’ve been opposed to the whole technologifyin’ (yes, I made that up) voting – it opens the door for this kind of crap.
Sorry – I was looking for geek stuff on Wired, but, as I’m sure y’all have gathered, e-voting really sticks in my craw as mostly change for change’s sake.
Leaders of a United States Senate subcommittee investigating allegations of fraud in the oil-for-food program in Iraq have accused Kofi Annan, the United Nations secretary general, of obstructing their inquiry. In a letter sent to Mr. Annan yesterday, the Republican chairman and ranking Democrat on the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations charged that the secretary general and a panel he appointed to conduct an independent investigation into the charges of abuses appeared to be “affirmatively preventing” the Senate from getting documents from a former United Nations contractor that inspected goods bought by Iraq.
And in related news, NPR was reporting (Windows Media) that an Marine unit had found a briefcase of vials of sarin gas. Remember that back in May a unsuccessful roadside bomb was also confirmed to be filled with sarin.
I mention these 1) to shower praise upon the “ranking Democrat” (Sen. Carl Levin of Michigan) for “reaching across the aisle” and 2) to remind us that there was, at one time, at least an uneasy concensus that there were threats in Iraq.
