Tyler Hamilton took gold in the Olympic time trial. Bobby Julich took Bronze, and USPS team member ‘Eki’ Ekimov took silver.

Good luck finally for both Hamiton and Julich, both of whom could have been TdF contenders, but both of whom had pretty vicious wrecks during the race. Hamilton dropped out; Julich finished, but was not in his best shape.

Road Race was on Saturday (again, I ask – WTF? While everyone’s hung over from the opening ceremonies?). Paulo Bettini, Italy (duh) won hands down; the big news is that Axel Merckx took Bronze. The Cannibal’s son has been living in his dad’s shadow. While it’s doubtful he’ll ever emerge completely (Eddie took yellow, green, and polka dot all in the same TdF one year), it’s nice to see him getting big results.
