Took the kid fishing for the first time on Sunday. Just to a little pond down the road from Sears (new lawn mower; may rant later). In any case, he hooked a nice one right away:

Caught a couple more after that one, but in about a half hour, he was more interested in throwing rocks and sticks in the pond than in catching more fish.
I was irate when Congress looked into the BCS
But this completely kills me: Bill Richardson, Democrat, Governor of New Mexico, wants to re-open the Roswell investigation. If he just wanted Gillian Anderson to come visit, that’d be cool with me, but it looks like he’s serious. (another link )
<humor>Although there might be a silver lining – if it were aliens, it would have been a Democratic president’s intel community that dropped the ball in 1947.</humor>
The NY Times has an article on Lloyd Doggett’s challenger in the most gerrymandered Congressional district in Texas history (and that’s saying something) – Becky Klein. Yes, she’s running against Lloyd. More important, however, she’s running for the FCC.
From Oswald Jacoby’s book, On Poker, from the 1953 edition which was originally published in 1940:
…once the stake has been set, adhere to it rigidly. In particular it is inadvisable toward the close of a game to raise the limit or the ante. Remember, the stake you have set is always one the players can afford. When you raise the ante or the limit you are increasing the size of the game and someone may get hurt.
