SUPERCOFFEE

Brazilian scientists cracked the coffee genome, and plan on developing a coffee that’s richer in taste, more aromatic and resistant to disease and frost. That’s all well and good, but how ‘bout more buzz?

Hopefully, this technology will not fall into evil hands who will use it for evil. Such as, say, creating decaffinated beans, or – even worse – a virus which would spread naturally, defaffinating the world’s entire coffee supply….

(BTW – I tried creating a “decaf coffee” page on wikipedia as a lark – said “Evil drink, waste of time and heat” – and was deleted. I did, however, get “Decaffinated Coffee” listed under their Coffee page as “similar to black coffee, but lacks black coffee’s essential dose of caffeine.”)

(Yeah, I know I said I was cutting back, but the love and happiness has me kind of jazzed; plus, a meeting I’d budgeted an hour for went 5 minutes – who knew?)

I asked this in the Rollerfeet FFL, but wanted to get thoughts out here:

I’m pretty tempted to go with ESPN’s Football game for the PS2 this year instead of another year of Madden. Why? Mostly the $30 price difference, but also because I’ve seen a bunch of good reviews for ESPN’s product.

Anyone tried both (or either?) and have a strong feeling one way or another?

Hadn’t even thought about this, but Iraq’s back in the Olympics after 12 years.

And their men’s soccer team is beating Portugal. Will they win? Who knows? But it’s nice to see that folks play better for themselves than under threat of torture.

(The Olympics aren’t really my cup of tea, but Athens has a pretty decent web site )

Hey, just a periodic reminder – there’s a lot of folks out there who need blood on both an emergency and a periodic basis, and there’s only one source for it – you and me.

Find a drive near you here.

(BTW – if you can’t give, you can hug a donor or volunteer to give out cookies)

They may have discovered a cure for procrastination.

In other news, I’d like to thank everyone for the stimulating discussions, but this is my last post — I’m going to go start a career now.

I’ve been thinking about getting a new cell phone for a while now. Lusting after the color screens and polyphonic ring tones of my friends. And John’s regular Sidekick postings made me think about switching carriers when the new one comes out.

Slashdot’s got a post on Attracting Women into Computer Science. While I don’t want to minimize the original thrust, some of the comments make me laugh until I cry…
