Not Greenpeace Everybody’s favorite group of crusading dirty hippies apparently doesn’t care about oil spill prevention and accountability: The state Department of Environmental Conservation cited the ship on July 14 for not filing an oil spill response plan or having a certificate of financial responsibility in case of a spill.

he ship was ordered to anchor July 14 until the documents were filed. The ship resumed its passage in violation of the order and was stopped again, according to DEC.

Greenpeace says they’ve filed their papers. But, like Greenpeace says, it’s just paper: ““It was a clerical error about paperwork and not about environmental protection,” (Greenpeace talking head) Gregory said. “We’re Greenpeace. Of course we want to work within all environmental laws.” She neglected to add out loud her thoughts that “It’s only greedy corporations and neocons who need to file. Fellow travelers can be trusted.”

Doc asked me who I heard in my head while I was going over the top of a climb a while back when we were discussing Bob Roll vs. Phil and Paul as far as cycling commentators went. After 3 weeks of Bob, plus doing a head-to-head with today’s final stage of the Tour, I’ve got an answer. It’s Bob Roll, no lie. The halting delivery, disjointed phrasing, and complete and unashamed love for the bike – yep, that’s how I’d like to ride.

We watched the last stage live, listening to Phil and Paul, and it was thrilling. I think they’ve still got the monopoly for calling bunch sprints, but there’s only so much “He’s really suffering” you can hear with the stiffer upper lip of Phil and Paul before you can appreciate Bob’s sometimes stunned silences.

OK, now that that’s settled: The stage in Paris always floors me. Great city, great race – someday I hope to be there with the boys, baguettes and bottles of vin rouge in our backpacks, shouting and pounding the side boards while the riders fly by.

Tonight, I’m catching the end of Arrested Development and the teaser (quite literally) was for an episode of The Simple Life visits a nudist colony.

And people wonder why tort reform and universal health care don’t get bigger followings…
