Potentially also known as The Real World Series

I’m kind of pumped about this – a global baseball tournament along the lines of Football’s World Cup. I’d absolutely love to see this. But I’m kind of skeptical – it looks like both the MLB owners and the player’s union are holding out for more cash. Which is even more reason why Selig is the anti-Christ.

This is a little freaky. Play Twenty Questions against this cgi-script/database and it can get most normal things.

This is the kind of thing that makes me want to do something cool with Rollerfeet.com’s unused SQL database.

Send ‘em to Baghdad

In an effort to clear up space on shelves all around the US, a guy at Jacksonville (AL) State University is collecting college level textbooks to reconstitute a body of knowledge in Iraq.

While I think they’ll pass at my copy of Siddhartha I’ll have to see if there are any old mechanics textbooks I can part with…

As we’ve been overly political lately (pot, kettle – I know, give me a break), I thought we should focus on something we all can love – Coffee.

The Chicago Tribune is reporting that in addition to making one hip, talkative, and shaky (or is that the after-effects of alcohol abuse?), coffee can reduce one’s risk of Parkinson’s, diabeates, gallstones, colon cancer, and heart disease, and it slices, dices, circumcises, even makes Julienne fries, whatever the hell those are.

Today’s reason: can I convert to GOP? No, my wife wouldn’t let me.

The delightful Orrin Hatch spoke about his most recent favorite judge nominee, Arkansas lawyer J. Leon Holmes, on the Senate floor Tuesday.

Fueling much of the debate is a 1997 article Holmes and his wife, Susan, wrote for Arkansas Catholic magazine titled, “Gender Neutral Language, Destroying an Essential Element of Our Faith.” The couple wrote that under Catholic teaching, “the woman is to place herself under the authority of the man” in marriage and “is to subordinate herself to the husband.”

… After reading aloud from Chapter 5 of the Book of Ephesians, Hatch said “it gets pretty bad around here” when lawmakers condemn Holmes for quoting the teachings of St. Paul the Apostle.

… Hatch also discounted criticism over a 1980 letter Holmes wrote to a newspaper arguing that rape victims should not be allowed to have abortions because “conceptions from rape occur with approximately the same frequency as snowfall in Miami.” Holmes has since apologized for the comment.

Could be. From the Associated Press

During the buildup and aftermath of the Iraq war, Edwards bought and sold stock in several defense contractors, including Lockheed Martin, United Technologies, General Electric, British Petroleum, Cardinal Health Inc., and General Dynamics.

He’s also got suspicious activities surrounding the sale of his house:

Edwards sold his Washington, D.C., home last year for $3 million, $800,000 more than he paid for it in 1999. Before the sale, to the government of Hungary, Edwards entertained an offer of $3.52 million from a public relations specialist hired by Saudi Arabia to influence Congress and the public after the Sept. 11 attacks.

Edwards, who at the time was a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee that was investigating Saudi and U.S. terrorism lapses, said he learned months after the offer was made, but before the deal fell apart, that registered foreign agent Michael Petruzzello worked for Saudi Arabia. He said he never talked to Petruzzello about the Saudis.
