I promise I won’t get into a habit, but I put up some decent pictures of a boatyard I found over at my running/cycling/pointless sweat site.
I’m sure I’ve mentioned it before, but there are a metric butt-ton of rocks in Connecticut. It’s impossible to grab a shovelfull of earth without getting it half full of granite. Call it a gift of the glaciers, or a test from God to determine the mettle of the pilgrims, but I can guarantee that every rock in the scenic stone walls running through the forests and rolling hills up here was accompanied by a Puritian saying “GD, not another F’n rock…”
In any case, we’ve been working on putting in a swingset – sorry, a playscape for Jake (and eventually Nate) and his friends to play on. Since you and I all know that the primary source of play will involve pushing each other off of said swingset, it is crucial that the playscape be on a level spot (structural engineering at work), and be devoid of hard, pointy, or rough spots (reference prior mentioned loathing of lawsuits) prior to beginning construction or putting down the 9 cubic yards of wood mulch that we’ve hauled in.
Read more!Posting this for my Dad more than any other reason. He loved Hoop Dreams and is a huge basketball fan (preferring college to pro is something I learned from him). One of my cherished memories is sitting with my mother in the gymnasium where my sister was playing elementary school basketball. We didn’t sit with Dad because he was on the front row, often leaping red-faced from the floor level bleacher to bellow at the ref as he passed by. I think Mom was embarassed.
Washington Post has an interview with the kids from the movie and updates their stories.
Today’s reason: under his God.
Snopes gives the low-down on the story that Bush declared ‘Jesus Day’ while he was governer of Texas.
Therefore, I, George W. Bush, Governor of Texas, do hereby proclaim June 10, 2000, Jesus Day in Texas and urge the appropriate recognition whereof, in official recognition whereof, I hereby affix my signature this 17th day of April, 2000.
It’s amazing to me that a man entrusted with a pluralistic society doesn’t understand what’s wrong with establishing a government mandated day for his religion.
The Post has a good piece on Steve Rosenthal, the leader of America Coming Together and #1 Soros minion.
> I bet mud-slinging pays well, too!
You bet! Just ask Soros’ minions…

I, of course, found this bit enlightening:
Read more! That title is almost as provocative as this piece by William F. Buckley, Jr. on marijuana reform and conservatives.
We’re not going to find someone running for president who advocates reform of those laws. What is required is a genuine republican groundswell. It is happening, but ever so gradually. Two of every five Americans, according to a 2003 Zogby poll cited by Dr. Nadelmann, believe “the government should treat marijuana more or less the same way it treats alcohol: It should regulate it, control it, tax it, and make it illegal only for children.”
I’ve been fretting that the voice of Muslim leaders against the violence in Iraq was not strong enough. News reports of middle eastern reaction to beheadings was light and not strong enough to make the front page in western media. Today’s news of Iraqi militants threatening Abu Musab al-Zarqawi has made the top news list at most of the western news outlets and I pray it emboldens more Iraqis to make a stand against violence.
He’s bad for the Republican Party.
The DNC has nominated a Massachussetts Liberal and a Trial Lawyer and there’s still a question about Bush’s ability to win the election.
Someone should tie magnets to Lee Atwater and RWR and wrap their caskets in copper wire. The energy problem would be solved.
