This violates the rule of “Don’t Post Popular Links”, but I am more interested in the fact that Peter Garrett of Midnight Oil fame is 51.
Today’s reason: rewarding people with no morals.
This morning on Unfiltered, Lizz Winstead’s talking point of the day was that several of the lawyers who signed the Bush memo explaining how he could legally get away with torture have been appointed to federal courts. So far, I have only found this article which reveals Jay Bybee was confirmed by the Senate to the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on a 74-19 vote in March 2003.
A legal memo advising the White House that torturing al-Qaida captives “may be justified” in the war on terror has focused attention on Jay Bybee, a Nevadan who signed the document as a top Justice Department adviser in 2002.
Bybee, a former professor at the UNLV Boyd School of Law, headed a team that provided legal guidance to the Bush administration on a range of issues, including its course in pursuing terrorists and those with potential knowledge of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
Would they have been so willing to confirm him if they had read this memo?
I’ll let you know if/when I find others.
