Lim Yo-Hwan made $300,000 last year playing StarCraft professionally. I first wondered why I don’t have a job like that, then I realized the reason: “talent”.

The team competes in Starcraft, a game of strategy that’s like a combination of high-speed chess and Risk. Players control one of three alien species in a computer-generated universe, attempting to gather resources, build weapons and annihilate the enemy. Matches generally last about 15 minutes.

See that: 15 minutes. When we play Starcraft at Gamefest, the games last a half-hour or more (for at least a couple of the players.)

Take the Abba-to-Zappa quiz from The Observer Music Monthly magazine where you try to match music star icons to quiz answers.

Today’s reason: more bad science.

Those crazy hippie leftists are upset because the USDA, under W’s direction, is broadening the definition of organics without getting input from external experts.

Over the course of 10 days in mid-April, the U.S. Department of Agriculture issued three “guidances” and one directive — all legally binding interpretations of law — that threaten to seriously dilute the meaning of the word organic and discredit the department’s National Organic Program.

And the changes — which would allow the use of antibiotics on organic dairy cows, synthetic pesticides on organic farms, and more — were made with zero input from the public or the National Organic Standards Board, the advisory group that worked for more than a decade to help craft the first federal organic standards, put in place in October 2002.

Another free toss for Bush’s agri-business buddies, since organic foods are becoming increasingly more popular and the price point for them is higher. Now people who aren’t meeting the standards most people expect from the word “organic” can sell their products at a mark-up. Ulitmately, this move will (1) make the USDA obsolete since their standard for “organic” will be ignored and/or (2) provide an unsuspecting public with products they wouldn’t buy if they knew the truth.

My man Kurtzie covered the liberal media issue – with statistics and research!

Okay, the statistics are mostly about the journalists and not their coverage, but it’s a good take on an old topic.
