I gave up my subscription to Stuff Magazine (and FHM and Maxim, etc.) because 99% of their content was 100% banal. I do miss their irreverance, though, like this pictoral/‘interview’ with “Baby Jessica”. (Yes, it’s surely a joke and not really her.)
STUFF: Are you OK?
JESSICA: Yes, I am OK.
You were so young. It must have been scary to be stuck in a well.
It totally was.
Wow. You are so brave.
Thank you.
Is it cool being that brave?
Kinda.
You are so inspiring.
Thanks.
Wanna go out for dinner or something sometime?
Not really.

“In November 2000, it just seemed like the right thing to do,” she continues, her voice breaking. “A Republican back in the White House – who could resist? I was looking forward to an era of fiscal and moral responsibility. What happened?”

#29. Five men and five dogs (each man owned a dog) went hiking. They encountered a river that was swift and deep. The only way to cross it was an abandoned boat, left ashore on their side. But it would only hold three living things. Unfortunately, the dogs were edgy and could not be near another person (not even momentarily) unless its owner was present. One of the dogs attended a highly advanced, highly specialized obedience school and therefore knew how to operate the boat — the other dogs lack this skill. How did the five men and the five dogs cross the river?
Answer #29 (in honor of my birthday this week) before you flip to the comment section — no cheating off other people!

Too Nuanced of a foreign policy: GWB talks a tough line against terrorism and dictatorship, but continues to allow evil people to exist
On the first anniversary of the start of military action to liberate Iraq, Bush declared, “We have set out to encourage reform and democracy in the greater Middle East as the alternatives to fanaticism, resentment, and terror.” Bush may have moral clarity, but lofty words lose their when not translated into policy. Soviet dissidents recount how Ronald Reagan’s acknowledgement of their plight emboldened them, demoralized their captors, and weakened dictatorships from Moscow to Warsaw to Prague. Unfortunately, failure to implement presidential policy undermines U.S. moral leadership. It is time to support Middle Eastern democrats rather than fawn over dictators. We should start by standing up for Fathi El-Jahmi(disappeared Lybian democracy and free speech advocate), Siamak Pourzand (imprisioned Iranian journalist) and Issam Abu Issa (Former head of the Palestine International Bank).
I have been waiting for several agonizing months (almost a year, I think) for the HDTV DirecTivo PVR from Hughes to be released. Finally on Friday a few people received the first units and at this very moment they are recording, pausing and rewinding High Definition TV shows…while I am not. For a few minutes on Friday I considered driving all over town hassling stores trying to find one — as I’ve done many many times in the past for new hardware and software, including video games. I guess I’m getting old, though, because in the end I simply placed a back-order online and I hope that some day in the near future I will receive it.
In light of all this, it was silly of me to ridicule the people I heard about in an episode of The Next Big Thing this weekend. They were all standing in line around the country to buy a shoe. Not just any shoe, though, Nike©‘s hemp 4/20 Earth Day shoe of which only 420 were manufactured. I’ve got a friend who once called stores all over town trying to find the new Nike© Air Robbery in his size and I harangued him mercilessly, and that shoe was mass produced! I suppose we’ve all got things we’ve “gotta have” and if your thing is an earth friendly sneaker, that’s not so bad after all.
p.s. These shoes can now only be found on eBay (for the most part) and are going for as much as $1000.00.
