after 3/11’s “attacks”:

Millions of Spaniards poured into the streets Friday, chanting “Cowards!” and “Assassins!” in a protest of the bombings that killed 199 people.

“We all need to be here to repudiate these killings. All of us. It is our duty,” said Manuel Velasco, a university professor who was drenched from the rain

The silence there was broken when someone angrily shouted: “Send the terrorists to the firing squad!”

ETA, the Basque terrorist group, is vigorously denying responsibility. My guess is they’re scared of a potential invasion of northern Spain by a coalition of the willing.

In any case, we’re all Spaniards today.

Apparently Al Quaeda’s intent all along was to sway the Spanish elections:

A December posting on an Internet message board used by al Qaeda and its sympathizers and obtained by CNN, spells out a plan to topple the pro-U.S. government.

“We think the Spanish government will not stand more than two blows, or three at the most, before it will be forced to withdraw because of the public pressure on it,” the al Qaeda document says.

“If its forces remain after these blows, the victory of the Socialist Party will be almost guaranteed — and the withdrawal of Spanish forces will be on its campaign manifesto.”

So Al Quaeda apparently sees a link between Iraq and the War on Terror, something that’s lost on many.

“This short film”: from an Iraqi is powerful stuff. Maybe some of those commie Spaniards will see it and realize that we (the whole world) need to spend as much time in Iraq as it takes to ensure the freedom of all Iraqis — not just the popular ones.

Do you think we should ship out a ton of after-school movies to start brain-washing the pro-Saddam countrymen into believing that even the unpopular people should be friends?

Good stuff. We need to see more of what life is really like in Iraq these days. Our news coverage is more about Americans dying than it is about Iraqis living.

New prints of “Free to be you and me” to save the world?

Neat, neat film on Iraq. Makes me proud to have served.
