The big anti-Bush news for the day is that “he and Laura invited several fund-raiser-types to sleep-over”:http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=544&e=5&u=/ap/bush_sleepovers at the White House and Camp David. It’s really nice to see Bush following in the footsteps of Clinton. I can just picture a young(er) Bush seeing WJC’s Lincoln Bedroom “scandal” on CNN and thinking to himself “I can’t wait until I’m the President so I can invite my friends for a sleep-over!”

– Etra, a Yale classmate of President Bush,
– Mercer Reynolds, … former Bush partner in the Texas Rangers baseball team
– Roland Betts, … a Bush fraternity brother at Yale and a Texas Rangers partner.
– William DeWitt, a Bush partner in the oil business and Texas Rangers
– James Francis,… a Bush appointee in Texas when Bush was governor
– Joseph O’Neill, an oilman and childhood friend who introduced Bush to Laura Bush

Wow. Scandalous.

BTW – I AM raising money for you when you run, Johno (Or any other porchers). Friendship comes first.

Here’s a little background on WJC’s Lincoln Bedroom scam:

President Bill Clinton’s guests in the Lincoln Bedroom gave a total of at least $5.4 million to the Democratic National Committee during 1995 and 1996, according to a study for CNN by the Campaign Study Group.

Among the biggest donors were investor Dirk Ziff, who gave $411,000; movie producer Steven Spielberg, $336,000; retired businessman William Rollnick, $235,000; and Hollywood mogul Lew Wasserman, $225,000.

The CNN study found 24 overnight White House guests who gave $100,000 or more to the DNC. CNN’s $5.4 million figure does not include money given to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, or any state party committees.

The Bushes got a whopping $1.2 million from the doners listed in the story. And had personal connections. WJC – Yep, Speilberg was hanging out with the Governor of Arkansas back in the day…

My Bush-Bacon Number (degrees of seperation) drops from “four”:http://www.rollerfeet.com/backporchbeer/archives/001291.asp to three. Is it ok that I feel uncomfortable?

Your Bush-Bacon number was three way back when GWB stopped on the USS LINCOLN, JohnO. I had met the ship’s skipper (he would stop by our space and watch the NCAA tourney with us), and he talked to a few of the sailors I worked with on a daily basis.

Though FoaF is probably mo’ closer.

Did they at least have a cool dog?

I love the English’s dog (what’is name? Tyler?) but he does not qualify under the term “cool”. He is total geek-dog personified.

How can a dog be a geek? (aside from the obsessive interest in food and licking one’s own private parts) (That’s not meant to be sarcastic, I’m kind of curious)

If you were having a butt-sniffing party, he’d be the dog who knocks over the water bowl — then apologizes profusely all night.
