But, my mother would be happy to know that the way she writes about church nudges a little piece of me that wants to find a “church family” here, or somewhere. The following from her piece in Salon this week, is what I’m talking about:

“It was clear that the pastor, Veronica, was speaking directly to me. She said that Christians have a very bad reputation in the world, because we have earned it, with our hate and self-righteousness. We speak in reverent terms of grace, justice, equality, mercy, and then we despise people who were also created in God’s image, who are Her children too. She said that if George Bush had been the only person on earth, Jesus would still have come down and died for him.

This drives me crazy. That God seems to have no taste, and no standards. Of course, by the same token, on most days, this is what gives some of us hope
and then the pastor said the most stunning thing I’ve ever heard her say: “When someone is acting butt-ugly, God loves them just the same as God loves the innocent. They are still just as loved by God.”

This week’s EW has a fun (and really large) article endorsing the insurgence of e-music stores like iTunes (Mac only, the s.o.b.‘s) and BuyMusic.com by providing TWENTY-FIVE themed mix-CD lists. Here’s a couple highlights (but you should pick up an EW for all the lists) and then my own list to add to the fun. Join in and provide a list of your own. The only limitation is that the tracks must be available via legal purchase/download channels and fit on a CD.

A friend who chooses to go un-named bought me the complete “My So-Called Life” DVD collection as a gift. It really was a great series and probably the best DVD gift I’ve ever received. Unfortunately the bot at Amazon sent them this insulting email.

Tomorrow Kelly and I are going to the American Film Institute’s Silver Theatre to see The Great Muppet Caper. It’s part of their Jim Henson festival. Apparently we missed last night’s event with actual Muppets and Harry Belafonte, so this will have to do…

Whatd’y‘all make of this Lieberman Inc. business? I’d believe them if this Was October of 2004, but some of what they’re selling is just a little too good. Besides, nobody could possibly want a 92-inch monitor, right?

The fantasy draft is undoubtedly the worst burden of playing our annual Madden 2004 tournament. Usually, it is a grueling 90 minutes of selecting the top players for our teams, but due to a feature in the latest version, Madden 2004, we spent over 3 hours completing our draft using a work-around.
