Suit filed in LA against computer manufacturers about ‘deceptive’ practices in identifying the size of hard drives. IMO, the plaintiffs don’t have much of a leg to stand on other than the ever popular “the ad may be technically correct, but it’s misleading to folks who don’t have the desire to actually learn something.”

What’s interesting to me is that the suit names “Apple Computer, Dell, Gateway, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Sharp, Sony and Toshiba” as plaintiffs, instead of the drive manufacturers, who label their drives in the exact same manner. Why? My guess is that it’s the deep pockets theory of law: Sue the bastards with the biggest bank account regardless of who’s truly at fault.

This bears watching. My guess is the the attorneys for the four named plaintiffs are going to try to add all computer owners everywhere to the suit, and it’s going to head into the multi-billion dollar range any day now.

Here’s a touching interview with one of Nixon’s “plumbers” where he discusses his regret in violating the personal privacy of a citizen that should be protected from government encroachment.

“It violates a fundamental principle in our country: the right of an individual to be protected from an unlawful action by his government.”

I dream that someday John Ashcroft will say this same sentence, but since he’s actively making sure that his immoral indiscretions are perfectly legal he will never get to see jail time or special investigators like Egil Krogh has.

I think that I’ve already posted about my love of The OC. But the following recaplet from Television Without Pity about Jake 2.0 has also gotten me a little excited, I’ll admit.

“Jake 2.0 – What’s part Buffy, part Trainspotting, part Charlie’s Angels mixed with Six Million Dollar Man, and Spiderman with a dash of The President’s Analyst? Jake 2.0. This could possibly be my most favorite show ever. If it ever gets canceled, I hope the world ends first, because I don’t have to live in a world without Jake 2.0.”

I’m a sucker for tormented teenage boys with good-bad hair since back in the day. No shame.

What about y’all? What shows are you looking forward to this season?

Sometimes the bear gets you, and sometimes you get the bear.

I walked into the house last night after going to a midtown club that was way, way, too cool for me, with my mind wandering back to the days when I at least hoped I could be hip enough to get into cool clubs (but my fondness for beer instead of mixed drinks and redneck music pretty much doomed me from the get-go). About the same time, the phone rings with one of Missy’s mom’s group friends wondering if we were interested in tickets to go see REM Saturday night.

Woo Hoo! Takes me back to 1988 and the Hirsch Memorial Colesieum! Can’t wait.

I went through a dinosaur phase as a kid, and wanted to be a paleontologist before I realized how much math and science was involved.

When I read this article this morning, I was taken back to simpler times for a moment. The idea of giant guinea pigs roaming the pre-historic earth generated a knee jerk response — “coooll…”
