Ah, the wonders of open source. There’s no driver to print from my “iBook”: to our “printer”: running on a Win2K machine. The printer pre-dated my desire to “switch”: (“Janie Porsche”: – “Trinity”: Alum), which is why I didn’t get a compatible.

Regardless, I’ve been messing around with “Yellow Dog”: on the iBook, and am growing to like it. “Ximian Evolution”: completely rocks, beats the snot out of Outlook. Tonight, I decided I needed to see if I could print. Five minutes later, I’m printing. It rocks.

I may have to switch once more…

Plus, I can load the RSS feed straight into Ximian and have BpB headlines meet me whenever I go to check mail. This rocks.

On that note, is there a way to limit the number of headlines in the rss feed? Or is that something I should do in whatever aggregator/viewer I’m using?

I tried them out with Amphetadesk yesterday and it gives me every BpB item ever.

Not sure about limiting the number of headlines, but my guess would be that it’s a software thing in Amphetadesk.

Further footnote: I spent the two hours after I posted this back in OSX trying to find/use a similar set of programs through the Un!x backside of OSX, but couldn’t locate the windows machine and the printer. One of my few but persistient gripes with OSX is the lack of an easy way to browse shared resources across platforms. It’s pretty easy to mount shared drives across the network, but difficult to do much else, at least initially.

If I can get Airport to work under Yellowdog, there’s a decent chance I may ditch even OSX. Apple’s hardware is still pretty nice.
