Here’s a release on “statistics about Internet usage”:http://www.msnbc.com/news/957732.asp?cp1=1 across the U.S. by “Pew”:http://www.pewtrust.com/ (see the full numbers “here”:http://www.pewtrust.com/ideas/idea_connector.cfm?content_item_id=1772&content_type_id=18&page=18&issue=0&issue_name=&name=Public%20Opinion%20Polls%20and%20Survey%20Results .) I wish I had the time and drive to read through the whole thing, but really I just wanted to see these two maps next to each other.

hmmm…It’s a tenuous correlation. It probably doesn’t mean a thing.

The ‘Red States’ map is one of those things I wish could go away. It’s another indication to me of the complete failure of general science education in the country. Being an outed conservative, I’m ashamed whenever a right-wing pundit trots out this graph to ‘prove’ that Bush won more of the country than Gore. Somewhere, the concept of density has been lost on these people, and the irony of that has failed to sink into their skulls.

I’d tend to discount the Internet connection, with the possible exception of the South. But, yes, it is an interesting juxtaposition.
