I’ll come out of the closet: I really like “Enterprise,”: the latest franchise from the “Star Trek”: cash cow.

I caught it a couple of months ago, almost by accident (Flipped by and caught the chesty Vulcan first officer). Stayed because they’re telling interesting stories. Not as corny as the first Star Trek, not as boring and politically correct as the Next Generation, and not as based on people with bad latex on their faces as Deep Space Nine (I think I hit all the franchises – Not really a “Trekkie,”: so I am not quite sure).

It appeals to me since it’s back to being strictly character based. The technology is new and difficult to come to terms with, the crew of the Enterprise are among the first humans to be away from Earth for an extended period. It’s only 150 years in the future (about as far away as the Civil war is from today). The people are folks we could relate to, and they’re all having a blast tooling around deep space.

Plus, it’s got Scott Bakula as the Captain of the Enterprise, who features prominently in the best kid’s album in years, Sandra Boynton’s “Philadelphia Chickens”: (Click on track 17, Pig Island).

I tried watching the first 3-4 episodes of Enterprise, but it was so awful I had to stop. On your reccommendation I may give it another try, but if it sucks I will mail your child a full VHS collection of Barney sing-along videos.
