“She said `Honey, it’s over. They got all the cancer.’ She waited a few minutes and then said `But they had to remove your penis.’ And I was one mad dude, you know.”

The guy has settled.

Courtesy of The Corner:

If it makes you feel any more brainy (I know it does me), did you know that you can sing almost any Emily Dickinson poem to the tune of “The Yellow Rose of Texas”?
Try it:
Because I could not stop for Death —
He kindly stopped for me —
The Carriage held but just ourselves —
And Immortality.

and

My Life had stood — a Loaded Gun —
In Corners — till a Day
The Owner passed — identified —
And carried Me away_

More high sulfur coal for the environmental fire: The EPA will not regulate CO2 as a pollutant. Which is good news for those of us who breathe. I won’t have to worry about getting a permit for producing excess pollutants when I go jogging tonight.

“I don’t think it’s our place to be looking for creative interpretations of an act to deal with a major policy issue like this before Congress has spoken with it,” (said Jeff Holmstead, EPA’s assistant administrator for air quality).

Truthfully, I’m split on this. I’m all about more efficient cars, etc, but I think it’s up to the automakers to come up with attractive fuel efficient models. Which I think is happening via hybrids, efficient diesels, etc, without gvmt intervention, due to environmental concerns, concerns about supporting terrorists w/ oil money, and generally rising gas prices. I’m for more efficient power plants and alternative sources, but again, I think it’s up to researchers to make alternatives more affordable instead of mandating changes, with all costs passed directly to consumers.

Fire at will.

I don’t have all that much to say about the billions of dollars Halliburton and other companies will be earning as a result of the “war” on terror. I just wanted to link to a map that highlights Djibouti.

Friendster allows you to explore the whole six-degrees thing electronically for free. I think things have gotten just a little sad, though.

p.s. Look for me, cynsmith, kelly and becky on Friendster.

Why is the Bush Administration allowing industrial plants to upgrade some equipment without requiring them to upgrade their pollution control equipment at the same time? This is exactly the sort of thing that soccer-mom swing voters care about (please please please).

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution presents 100 items available in the DeKalb Farmer’s Market that make me a little envious of Atlantans. I’m especially excited by the “Organic vanilla oat milk” and the “Spoonable stevia”. Time to send a product request card or two to Central Market .

p.s. If you aren’t in touch with the story of Stevia now is a chance to broaden your mind and fight the power!

stevia can be sold legally in the United States, but only as a “dietary supplement.” … It cannot, however, be called a “sweetener” or even referred to as “sweet.” To do so would render the product “adulterated,” according to the FDA, and make it again subject to seizure

Miracle Whip was introduced at the Chicago World’s Fair in 1933 and has been giving simple mayonnaise a run for it’s money ever since. Innovations have been keeping up with this wonderful spread including the new squeeze bottle (which Becky keeps setting upside down in the fridge) and the new Hot n Spicy*** version takes a BLT and kicks it up a notch.

I enjoy almost every comic strip that Salon publishes (sorry, Marlys) and I especially enjoy when Ruben Bolling uses his Tom The Dancing Bug strip to do a Super-Fun-Pak Comix — kind of a smorgasbord of brainy silly comics all in one strip. Today’s strip will be duplicated the blog-world around. Here’s an excerpt.
