We’ve all been there – sorting through a stack of documents printed and not yet retrieved by the people who share our network printer. Pain in the rear.

How hard would it really be to build a printer that would affix a “Post-it Flag”:http://www.3m.com/us/office/postit/products_flags.jhtml or something similar to the first page of your document? It’d most likely be possible to build it with a dozen or so colored tabs at different parts of the page, so that the users could configure their print drivers to attatch their individual flag.

Our old office printer would shift its output back and forth a couple of inches between each print job so you could at least the print jobs were separated.

This must be very important information for me to be sharing it on the Internet like this.

Back in the day, network printers would spit out a cover sheet for each print job with the owner’s name on it. This practice was stoped by the greenies to save paper, but as many printouts as get tossed every day at my office because no one collects them it may not have been a good idea.
