Fair and Balanced, even to “Microsoft”:http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/3154117.stm :

Turns out the Blaster Worm was pretty much contained before it became an issue. I do appreciate the way that MS doesn’t put a time limit on providing patches to the various versions of Windows. One of my gripes with the Anti-Virus folks stems from the fact that I’m pretty much locked into droping $30/year or more _per machine_ to ensure that I remain virus free.

Not that I mind, honestly. Having rebuilt from virus-induced crashes several times, the $30 is a small price to pay for peace of mind. And that someone’s making a living selling it to me is just fine with me in the long run. But I wish we could do more to bust the folks who unleashed those tiny bits of code that cost so much in subscriptions and lost computer time.
