Fun with Grammar
I’ll admit that I’m late coming to the party, so maybe this is an inside joke I missed, but technically the BackPorch tag line should be: “Things that matter, more that don’t”

The Place Where People Sit On The Backporch And Drink Beer: You can be assured that no person will be upset if you decide to move a chair closer. If you decide to do that, you can better hear the converstion about some things that do matter, but there will be more conversations that don’t matter. When you read our new slogan you will certainly not be confused about the purpose of our web diary.

You’re all very funny. I was trying to elevate the level of discourse (okay, not really), but that’s fine…
Can’t we just call it “this room smells funny?”

Suck it.
Besides, it’s a compound sentence. The first clause has subject ‘things’ that (do is implied here) matter. The second clause has the subject ‘more’ which is a singular noun referring to a single group of things, so the verb contraction ‘doesn’t’ is appropriate.

(Oh, and since emotion is sometimes mistook in virtual print, the ‘Suck it’ in the previous post was meant as a joke. I was re-reading and it seems excessively harsh. Nuance is not one of my strong points. But developing an ability to express it is one of my writing goals for the year. That and writing the Great American Novel)

Becky, can you provide a source for “this room smells funny”? I have another friend who’s referenced it before and if it’s the same story, it has special relevance for me.

Kelly: You’re actually my source for the reference—you told the joke once at Laura Jones’s ranch house and I claimed it as my catch phrase.
Proof positive that pot smoking reduces long term memory. :)

The Backporch: the place from which more people get information than from any other place that those people don’t.
