I sometimes frighten myself with the conspiracy theories I’m willing to find reasonable, but I generally don’t believe that there’s an all-powerful secret cabal of rich white men who run the world.
“I’m certain that we’re going to find the truth. We’re really… We’re driving to the truth. We want to understand the program from the beginning to its end, to how it was proceeding at ever step, to who was involved. I am certain that we will reach the conclusion of understanding that program, whatever it was.” – Former UN Weapons Inspector David Kay
Sweet, sweet pipes if you’re a fan of Cuban music/Salsa. I was turned on to her by a bunch of drunk Cubans in a Bahrain Hotel. Hoist a mojito.
These Guys look like they’re having a blast.
Pat Robertson has come out on his show and website asking Christians to pray for 3 justices to leave the Supreme Court this year. He mentions retirement in the same breath that he mentions the health problems of several unnamed (but assuredly liberal) judges. He doesn’t specify that he wants God to kill them, but he certainly leaves the opportunity open for Him. (Is death-by-prayer considered murder?) Pat is upset at the repeal of sodomy laws in Texas (and by proxy all the USA) and is afraid that civil unions will be approved next.
My personal belief (and it seems clearly apparent to me) is that God’s primary goal in creating mankind — our inherent unique gift, if you will — is to make choices. Pat has made it clear that God was wrong in providing the option of same-sex partners to mankind. Whether he believes it is a sin or not, he is casting a blight on Christians by defying God.
Picked up a Firewire Drive Enclosure at Fry’s this weekend. I’d been shopping around for an enclosure for a spare laptop drive I had lying around the house. Short story: I dropped the drive in the enclosure, plugged it into my laptop, and about 5 minutes later my music collection was on the now-portable drive.
Nothing spectacular about it; just great to have something work exactly as advertised on the first try.
Next project is to re-partition my iBook’s hard drive to dual boot Yellow Dog Linux or OS X.
No particular reason why I’m doing any of this (Or why I’m running Lycoris on my laptop) other than to see how it’s done.
The only observation I’ve really got is that for most users, the operating system is pretty much moot. For the most part, the big 3 (Mac, Linux, Windows) have the same features, read/write the major file types (.doc, .xls, .pdf, .htm, .etc), and have gotten pretty easy to network. I’ve got no major gripes with any of them, with the exception of an ill-timed buy of Microsoft stock on my part. YMMV.
Actually, one final thought – Free Software is my favorite reason to use Linux/Mac. The dot bomb put a lot of folks who enjoy programming out on the streets. Apple and most Linux distros include software development packages for free, so as a result folks with time to kill are pumping out some decent stuff. More on this later, but if I had to bet long-term, I’d put more money on hardware companies than software…
Houston Chronicle is doing its part to raise awareness of trans-fats this morning. OK, so it’s blatantly obvious that Houstonians are well acquainted with trans-fats, but to drive the point home, the Chronicle decided to rant against evil resturants, food manufacturers, and misinformed consumers.
Somehow, though, the editors allowed a useful bit of info through:
“‘Or, here’s a novel idea: Just eat a small piece.’”
Les Quebecois have come to the aid of the French and translated ‘email’. You know, ‘cause those who invented things get to name them, right?
How about a dry cleaner which checks clothes, etc, for missing buttons and will automatically sew one on when they find a missing button? I might pay an extra dime or quarter per piece on every piece I dropped off as insurance.
